Background
Founded in 1936 by the family of Mrs. Laudy Geara Khoury within the Mar Mikhaël parish, Al Chafaka is one of the oldest registered charities in Lebanon. Al Chafaka was born to support neighbors in need in Mar Mikhaël and surrounding areas – the word “chafaka” refers to the compassion felt for the suffering of others.
Throughout the century, Al Chafaka remained particularly active on the ground, engaging with hundreds of families across neighborhoods, and organizing a wide array of social activities in Beirut, including plays, movie theatre and opera events.
